NIOSH published a blog to demonstrate how employers can use the research agency's hearing loss prevention program to not only keep workplace noise exposures below OSHA-required levels but put even more effective controls in place. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was upgrading the hearing conservation program for its 138 noise-exposed workers and wanted criteria based on science. Current OSHA regulations were being followed, but NIST updated its hearing conservation program based in large part on NIOSH research and recommended criteria, according to the blog.
