OSHA Streamlines Codified State Plan Information

OSHA was scheduled to publish in Tuesday's Federal Register a direct final rule amending OSHA regulations to remove the detailed descriptions of state plan coverage, purely historical data, and "other unnecessarily codified information." The rule moves most of the general provisions of subpart A of part 1952 into part 1902, and amends several other OSHA regulations to delete references to part 1952, which will no longer apply. The revisions' purpose, OSHA said, is to eliminate the unnecessary codification of material and thus save the time and funds currently expended in publicizing state plan revisions. The streamlining does not change the areas of coverage or any other substantive components of any state plan, OSHA added. The rule takes effect 60 days from publication, with public comments accepted for 30 days.
