NIOSH Emphasizes Workplace Cancer Concern

NIOSH pointed to workplace exposures in lodging concern about cancer hazards on Tuesday (Feb. 4), World Cancer Day. The research comes as the agency explores policy on how to classify carcinogens in the workplace. NIOSH said that globally, 12.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer every year, and the number is expected to increase due to the growth and aging of the population, as well as reductions in childhood mortality and deaths from infectious diseases in developing countries. Workplace exposures are a factor, NIOSH scientists said.
