Solis 'Encouraged' By Slight Workplace Fatality Drop

The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses among private industry employers declined in 2010 to a rate of 3.5 cases per 100 equivalent full-time workers, down from a total case rate of 3.6 in 2009. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis stated that DOL is "encouraged" by the reported decline, but that incidents are still too high. She also expressed concerns about high rates in the health care and social assistance industry sector, as well as among public sector workers.
