Public Citizen Decries OSHA Denial Of Physician Work Hours Petition

Public Citizen blasted a recent decision by OSHA to deny a 2010 petition for the agency to regulate the work hours of resident physicians to address fatigue issues, saying the decision mirrors a Bush-era position by OSHA on the same subject. The public interest group called on OSHA to take two actions: begin enforcing safe resident work hours under the general duty clause; and provide data on past enforcement actions to protect resident whistleblowers and elaborate on how it plans to hold academic medical centers accountable for retaliatory actions against residents in the future.
