OSHA Issues Large Fine Against Gun Powder Maker

OSHA filed a wide-ranging citation against a New Hampshire gun powder substitute manufacturer with penalties totaling $1.2 million, following an investigation into causes of an explosion in May took the lives of two workers. The agency issued 54 workplace safety and health citations against Black Mag LLC for the explosion at the company's Colebrook, NH, worksite. Agency chief David Michaels said that even after a prior incident in which a worker was seriously injured, and multiple warnings from its business partners and a former employee, the employer still decided against implementing safety measures.
