NIOSH has released new guidance, Components for Evaluation of Direct-Reading Monitors for Gases and Vapors, along with an addendum, Hazard Detection in First Responder Environments. The documents are part of the Direct-Reading Exposure Assessment Methods initiative on direct-reading methods and monitors, which NIOSH began in 2008 to advance the development and use of 21st century technologies to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, control, and confirm safe levels of occupational exposure to hazards in time-sensitive ways.
